The Musée d’Orsay is a National museum located in the center of Paris near the National Assembly, front of the Louvre and the Tuileries Garden in the 7th arrondissement on the Left Bank. The Orsay Museum was inaugurated 1986 in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Pres district in Paris. The Musée d’Orsay and the Pompidou Center are ranked first in the hit parade, according to a study by the Arts newspaper. On the eve of the Universal Exhibition of 1900, the state gave up the land to the Orleans Railroad Company which, disadvantaged by the eccentric position of the Gare d’Austerlitz, was planning to build on the Place du Palais d’Austerlitz. Orsay a more central terminal station. The station and its hotel, built in two years, were inaugurated for the Universal exhibition, on July 14, 1900. In 1973, the Direction of the Museums of France already envisaged the installation in the Station of Orsay of a museum where all the arts of the second half of the nineteenth century would be represented.
