The Pantheon is located in the heart of the Latin Quarter in 5th arrondissement of Paris near the Luxembourg Gardens, honoring the memory of famous disappeared like: Victor-Hugo, Jean Paul Sartre, Jean Moulin, etc… Soufflot realizes a monument of 110 meters long and 83 meters high built in a Greco-Roman architectural style front of the Luxembourg Gardens, in the center of the Place du Pantheon in Paris. When one looks at the building from above, one notices its shape in Greek Cross surmounted by a dome, all resting on a crypt where were buried the monks of Sainte-Genevieve. Begun in 1758, the construction will be completed in 1789. The pediment of the Pantheon presents alternately on its main facade religious and secular scenes that reflect the successive roles of the building. The Pantheon we see today has nothing to do with that of 1789. Indeed, the Towers were razed, the pediments were redone and windows blocked. Two floors were removed from the steeples. Inside, there is the Foucault Pendulum, which presents the living proof of the rotation of the earth. Simone Veil and her husband Antoine enter the Pantheon on Sunday, July 1st, 2018!
